It's a Twinderful Life

Looking For the Silver Lining in All of Life's Clouds

scarlett.

Happy Tuesday all! I apologize for the lack of posts last week…I was off witnessing one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen! The birth of this little gem:

Bre and Scarlett are doing great. And isn’t this picture one of the most beautiful you’ve ever seen?! (minus the heavily pixilated picture)

Scarlett Owl

Here’s Scarlett on her way home from the hospital yesterday.

She is the most precious thing and I feel lucky to be her Aunt. I’ll let Bre log on and share the birth story when she has a minute (it’s a good one). Until then, I’ll just be squeezing my new little niece so tight and thanking the heavens that she’s here, safe and sound.

Have a great week!

a change will do you good.

Happy Thursday Friends! I’d like to take a second to thank Sheryl Crow for bringing us the title for our post today. Change is, indeed, a good thing (most of the time). Allow me to introduce you to my most recent change (spoiler alert: if you follow me on Instagram you’ve seen these pics).

long hair 2

This is me on Christmas Eve.

bangs

Here I am a little over a month ago when I decided to get bangs (I saw Bre’s everyday and I LOVED them so I couldn’t resist trying them myself).

long hair ruler

Here is a picture of my hair last week, measuring the length in preparation for…

hair cut

This!

I look a little different, eh? I chopped off 15 inches and died my hair two vibrant shades of red (you can see the red better in the next pic).

short curly hair

I took this pic this morning (I decided to style it curly to see what it looked like). Isn’t the red AWESOME?! I am borderline obsessed.

So, why did I cut it? For a couple of reasons. First, I’ve been growing my hair out for a while in hopes to sell it. Bre sold 15 inches of her hair a couple of years ago and made quite a tidy profit. My tidy profit (when I am successful in selling it) is going towards a vacation that the hubs and I are hoping to take in March or April. The second reason is that I was getting sick of taking care of so much hair and was ready for a change. I feel so ALIVE!

And there are other (more exciting) changes that have taken place/are about to take place around here. Just two weeks ago my brave husband decided to walk away from a stable job because it wasn’t taking him where he wanted to go. There were months of conversations and looking for other jobs. In the end, we decided that (for us) it was time to take a leap of faith and have him quit even though he hadn’t found another job. This quote from on of my favorite websites describes perfectly how Steve felt – uncomfortable – and how discomfort can lead us to make changes in life:

Let me insert here that every person’s situation is different. We’re very blessed in that I have a stable job that I happen to like a lot that allows us to still take care of ourselves financially. Even still, though, it wasn’t an easy decision for varied other reasons. And for those out there who are unemployed and have been looking for work, my heart goes out to you. It’s a tough economy out there.

So far, it’s been AWESOME! He’s had two interviews, been offered a one-night-a-week job that will give him some of the experience that he is looking for, and hope is on the horizon. I’m so proud of him. It takes a lot of guts to “follow your truth.”

Another HUGE change that is going to occur any day now is that Bre is about to have her little girl!

Isn’t she SO cute! I think that she is literally he most beautiful pregnant woman I’ve ever seen (not that I’m biased, or anything). We can’t wait to meet this spunky little one and will keep you apprised of all the details.

So there you have it, change is awesome. It can be scary and challenging and make us re-evaluate who we are and what our priorities in life are. Oftentimes it leads us to places we never would have never imagined for ourselves. And sometimes, it’s just plain AWESOME. So, what are you waiting for? Is there some discomfort in your life that is inviting you to change? If so, I challenge you to take the first baby step towards honoring that feeling. I can almost guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.

guide to childbirth.

OMG kids, I just finished one of the most FANTASTIC books I’ve ever read – “Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth.” Bre asked that all who are going to be in the room for baby girl’s arrival (I’m one of the lucky ones) read it and I am so glad that I did! I have literally never felt so empowered as a woman. I had no idea that my body was capable of such amazing and complex processes! Even though I’m not expecting a baby myself and may never have the opportunity to carry a biological child of my own, I feel like I’ve come to know myself better from reading this book. I want to take better care of myself and feel a newfound kinship with every female I come across (I apologize if this sounds crazy, but it’s true!). Seriously you guys, read it. It will expand your horizons and amaze you at how beautiful our bodies (both male and female) really are. We are so blessed.

Next on the docket to read: “Ina May’s Guide to Breastfeeding.” Bre is almost done with it and says there is so much more information in it besides how to breastfeed (e.g. like how to swaddle, how to take care of and really help a new mom out, nutrition, etc.). She says that it’s just as fantastic as the first. I can’t wait.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
